Onedia James: a logistician and leader with a family legacy of service

Onedia James recently stepped into the role of acting deputy project manager for Army Data and Analytics Platforms (ARDAP) at U.S. Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Enterprise, where she helps oversee and support the data portfolio’s four programs. She also continues to serve as the product support manager for ARDAP, a position which she’s held for the past 2.5 years.
Before joining ARDAP, James was the product support manager for Integrated Personnel and Pay System – Army Increment II at PEO Enterprise and earlier was the chief of its Acquisition Logistics Division. Earlier in her career, she was the assistant deputy director, G-4, Joint Force Headquarters – National Capital Region Military District of Washington.
James recently shared some highlights from her career and personal life for our Teammate Tuesday series.
How many years have you been a federal government civilian?
I joined the federal government in August 2016 after 23 years of military service.
What prompted you to choose a career as an Army civilian?
I was a logistician in the military, which I loved doing. I wanted to continue to serve my country, and when the opportunity presented itself for me to join PEO Enterprise Information Systems [now PEO Enterprise] as a logistician, I jumped at the opportunity.
Where did you grow up, and what connection do you still have with that place?
I grew up Greenville, South Carolina. My mother and two of my siblings still live there, so I try to make it back home at least 2-3 times a year.
What are the best things about working for PEO Enterprise?
Being able to continue to serve my fellow colleagues and country. Also, the opportunities to continue to grow as a logistician and leader.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy coaching and mentoring young athletes who are interested in placing at the collegiate level. I provide them with guidance on their roadmap to college, helping them identify what resources are available to them and what college coaches expect in athletes today. I also enjoy family time with my husband, children and grandchildren.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I enjoy hitting the gun range in my spare time. I come from a military family. My mother, younger sister and two of my sons all served.
